Podcast family. I'm super excited to introduce you to John Lee Dumas. He's made over a hundred thousand dollars profit every single month for the last 89 months working only three days out of every single month and saying no to appointments. The other 27 days being the very first daily podcast in the world podcast family. It's my absolute honor to introduce you to John Lee Dumas, Listening to the all the way up podcast is where I bring some of the most amazing people in the world into a private conversation to help you with your business. We share lessons, stories, and insights from entrepreneurs who've been right where you are and have gone on to do Epic things on their very own, all the way up church For coming today. JLD, I'm super excited. You've done awesome, awesome stuff in the world. You've got one of the most Epic podcasts. You're one of the first people to move down here to Puerto Rico where I live, but I followed your blog. I love your transparency on the fact that, you know, you just tell people the way it is and you're like, this is what I'm doing. It's the life I'm living. It's the way I'm doing it. And I'm going to give you an opportunity if you want to do it, kind of like me or hang out with me, but I'm just going to be transparent and open. And I got a lot of respect for somebody that does that. So thanks for coming to join us today. Take us back a little bit to when you launched the podcast, let's go back to that moment in time when you launched that and tell me what that was like for you. Well, listen, I appreciate the invite. It's always fun hanging out with you, Gary. I mean, you know, we've been doing a lot of clubhouse Hangouts, which is of course a blast. And if anybody's listening, not on clubhouse, you're going to be following myself and Gary, cause we're doing some cool things on there. But 2012, I looked back at the last six years leading up to that year. And I said, man, you know, I spent eight years as an officer in the U S army. Then I got out and I spent six years of struggle. I went to law school. I dropped out, I did a little ex-pat life. By the way, I went to Guatemala, to India, to Costa Rica and traveled around and loved that time of my life. But then I was trying to get into a career. And again, law school, dropout, corporate finance, fizzled out commercial real estate, residential real estate. I looked at my life in 2012 and I said, man, the last six years, I've just been kind of bopping from one career to another and nothing sticking. And so I started reading all the best business books, listening to all the best audio books on business and entrepreneurship and in fill in the blank. And that kind of led me to listening to podcasts because the medium just made sense. Like it was free. It was on demand and it was targeted content. And I started listening to these great interviews with people like Gary Vaynerchuk and Neil Patel and Tim Ferriss and Barbara Corcoran. And I was like, man, I am learning so much from these free interviews of these people, just talking about their successes, their failures or tactics, what's working for them now. What's not working for them now. And I said, man, these shows are coming out one day per week. That's awesome. I'm going to go find the show right now on Apple iTunes that comes out every single day and the show did not exist. I was shocked. I couldn't have been more surprised, but a daily show interviewing entrepreneurs didn't exist. And so I said, you know what? Gandhi said, it, I'm going to follow those words. I'm going to be the change that I want to see in the world. I want a daily podcast. I'm going to create that daily podcast. I'm going to be bad at first of course, but I'm going to be putting in the reps, doing it daily. So let's do this thing. I hired a mentor, join a podcast mastermind and I just went for it. And the day I launched Gary entrepreneurs on fire was the best daily podcast interviewing entrepreneurs in the world. It was the worst daily podcast interviewing entrepreneurs in the world. It was the only daily podcast interviewing entrepreneurs in the world. And guess what? That's why I won because I was the only I owned that space. There was no competition. If you wanted that daily show, you came to me, no matter how much you hated my voice and that was it. And so the show grew from there. I was able to build my influence, build my network. And as you and I are talking, Gary, nine years have passed. 3000 interviews have been done over a hundred million listens right now, biggest month ever. I'm averaging over 1.4 million listens every single month. And my business is netting multi-millions of dollars per year, which we publish all the details on our website, EO fire.com/income. We've done 89 monthly income reports in a row with every penny we've made, how we made it. We also share the biggest mistakes that we've made in which we made plenty and how much money that's cost us and everything in between. We bring our lawyer on those income reports. We bring our tax CPA on for tax tips and all that jazz. So this is a really meaty, amazing report. And here I am, 2021 in Porto Rico making a lot of money, keeping all the money that I make inspiring a lot of people and honestly loving life. I mean, how can you not, you know, you made some of the smartest decisions, I'm sure you made a lot of mistakes, but like I love the fact that you saw an opportunity and the fact that no one had a daily podcast and rather than, you know, looking and saying, well, I can't do that. Or there's a reason why there's not one of these. You just said, well, hell, I'm going to go give it a shot and see what happens. And that's kind of what I did when I went to the clubhouse, I went in and I was like, well, man, I don't have millions of followers on Instagram. I don't have the podcast with a hundred million downloads, but you know, there's less than a million people on this platform. And if I get in and grind for a couple of weeks, I might be able to do some pretty cool stuff. And you know, I didn't have to do the 3000 interviews. Like now I'm just now starting my podcast. But same basic principle is no one was in there doing what I was doing. Everybody was in there telling people how to make money. And I tell people different stuff. Yeah. And guess what? You've been able to be a first mover advantage, which is exactly what I was in podcasting. And that's one thing that I always tell people. And it's something I've actually been beating as a drum in clubhouse recently when people are bringing me on stage, as I'm like for years, people have been like, John, I missed the boat on podcasting. Like woe is me. Or, Oh, then there was mere cat and Periscope and Instagram and Snapchat and Tik TOK and reels. And I've just missed the boat on all these things. And I'm like, well, guess what? The next thing is always coming. The next thing's always coming. So keep your eyes open. And when you see something that makes sense for you, that clicks with you like podcasting did for me back in 2012, go all in. Don't go, half-ass go all in. That's what you're doing with clubhouse. And you're reaping the benefits as a result. That's what I do with podcasting. Back in 2012, I'm still reaping the benefits as a result. And that's how people win for me. Clubhouse is amazing because it's audio only. I love audio. I'm an audio guy. I've done all 3000 of my interviews. Plus audio only. I've never made the switch to video because it's just not the kind of show that I want to create for various reasons. I have my reasons you have yours, nothing against video video can be awesome for certain scenarios, for sure. Not for me. So when I see an opportunity like clubhouse, I don't even have a Tik TOK account. I've never even checked out reels. Like none of these things are for me. And so I have an empty plate so that when something like clubhouse comes, boom, I spring and how I describe myself as I'm a coiled spring. Like I have the bandwidth to take advantage of the right opportunities because I don't say yes to everything. In fact, because I say no to almost everything. And when that right thing comes along, boom, I spring and I go all in and I make it happen. I think it's so key. The power of the word. No, because if you were doing everything, there's no way you could like seize an opportunity when it presents itself. Just not possible. Everything else would implode Have bandwidth. You have to have an open plates and that's why I live in. So let's talk about that for a second because if your plate was full and you're not happy with your life, then what do you do if you've got a full plate right now, and you're not happy with your life and your way, what would you do? Listen, I would just write down everything that I do every single day for two weeks, because when we can be an anomaly, so write it down every single day for two weeks. And then look back over that and say, you know what? I'm going to start to circle the things that are critical to my success. Things that actually make me money, things that actually, you know, bring me success. Things that actually bring me happiness and be really, really critical. And then everything else is on that list. Get it out of your life. Like I love one of Warren Buffett's quotes. If you want to be successful, write down the top 20 things that you're most excited and passionate about and that you want to spend most of your time doing and then cross out numbers two through 19 that's Warren Buffett's. You know, I think it's interesting as I've moved down here to Puerto Rico, I get a lot of people that will, you know, they'll come to town and they're like, let's get together. Let's do this, let's do this, let's do this. And it's tough when you live here. I love the fact that you say no to so many things and you get to protect your energy and do what you choose to do. So another reason why you should move to Palmas Del Mar Whenever people do move down here, I say no, in the best possible way of say, Oh, I'd love to hang out here. Here's the Google map of my address. Come on down, let's have a coffee. And they're like, Ooh, that's like a 45 minute drive and I don't have a car. And I'm like, yeah, that is too bad. All right. Well, That's a really cool way to say that Because I just opened up my home to them and they're going to be like, man, if I only had a car, I could have hung out with JLD. Some people have rented cars and come down and like, I'll have a 30 minute coffee with them and that's great. And then some of them have actually ended up moving to Palm with San Marcus. They they're like, Oh my God, this place is the best. I was going to say, if you ask, Hey, can I meet with you? And if you invite someone into your house to have a 30 minute coffee with you and all they have to do is rent a car or hop in an Uber and do it. And you can't, man, you shouldn't have asked in the first place, because you said yes, like either you're asking because you know, it's going to be a no. And that's what you're asking for. But like, come on, that's like a hundred bucks and you get to have a coffee with JLD, which is you can't buy that. Although I won't talk business, to be honest. No. And that's Cool. Like, you don't want to do business with people like that. Like you want to build relationships with people. People ask me all the time, like Gary, how do you know all these people? Cause I don't talk business a lot. I want to know about the dog. I want to know about what you're doing. I want to hang out. If everybody's talking business all the time, it's boring to me. Like I want to go do fun stuff. Like I want to go have fun and hang out and build relationships with people. So tell me what you're doing now. So I know a lot of people in your world that would have just be coasting right now. You know, they'd be saying, man, I got something that's working. I'm making multiple seven figures. I live in paradise. I got a cool dog. I got a cool wife. I live around cool people. I can do whatever I want. So I'm just having a good time. So what are you doing these days? What's keeping you busy. How are you impacting the world These days? I'm not busy and I'll never be busy. I don't accept that word. I'll never tell somebody else that I'm super busy because to me that again is going back to something that we talked about earlier is you're filling your life up with things that probably you shouldn't be filling your life up with. So in some ways I am coasting. And let me kind of dive into that a little bit more choosing to coast. So two days per month, I crush it. I have interviews on my show, entrepreneurs on fire with other guests. That's eight interviews a day for two days, 16 interviews, two days every single month. So those two days I'm more productive than any other human being on this planet. I'm doing 16 interviews for my show. In-depth thorough, amazing interviews. Another day of the month is just completely blocked off to do interviews on other shows I have back to back a minimum of 20 other shows one day per month, how many days per month beyond that one day I'm a guest on other shows 0.0. Now noted. It's a little bit different now because I am right in pre-book launch mode right now. So I have two months before my book launch. So I have opened up my calendar in a way that I haven't for years, but this is for the last, you know, essentially five years in my business. You can not get on my calendar except for those three days for interviews, for interviews, for my show or interviews for other shows, then, you know, I have a morning routine that I crushed that includes, you know, health, wellness, nutrition, all that focus, which is why at 41 years old, you know, I still look amazing. I feel amazing. I'll say you look like you're in your twenties. Thank you. And I feel like I'm a microwave by the way, because I treat my body so much better than it did when I was in my twenties. And because that I feel great and you know, my energy level is super high and you know, I do things that I love. And that's not saying that I'm not working those other 27 days per month. Cause I am I'll jump on clubhouse and have a great conversation or hear about a great conversation with somebody. I'll do other things during those 27 days. Of course, I've got to keep up with email and do some things on social media, but ma'am my days are mine for 27 out of 30 days per month, three of those days, again, I'm slammed, I'm slammed in my zone of fire. So it's a great world as a great calendar. It's a great setup. I love doing interviews for my show. I love doing interviews like this with you on other shows. And I just am so, so dialed in on saying no to everything that doesn't involve those things. You know, we do this, we do what we do to live a life. Like we only have so much time in the world and when it's over, it's over and we don't know when that's going to stop. I've lost a lot of people way too early in life. And you know, Jesse Itzler talks about, you know, when your bus stops, your bus stops and you don't know when it's going to happen. I think that's what I'm most scared about is living my life and my bus stopping before I'm ready for it to stop. And I want to make sure that every day that I live, like now that you told me that I don't want my bus to stop before I get to experience that, How much would that suck? Like I've got so much respect for the way you're doing this, the way you're living your life. You're just transparent. You're genuine. You're doing some cool stuff, man. Thank you. Coming from you, Gary, that means a lot. And that's part of that mindset stuff. I can't wait to read your book because I'm sure you lean into some of that is, you know, looking at life a little different, you know, like balancing yourself, you know, because you do, you just shared that you spent three days a month really working hard and the other 27 days are yours. I mean, I'll tell you I'm grinded hard right now. And I really, really hope like I usually work about 20 hours a week. That's my normal way, way more than three days a month. But listen, We go through seasons. I had my grinding season and people that are listening, you should have a grinding season that he doesn't just come to you. You know, you don't just have three days per month where you're really killing it. Then 27 days to do what you want to do day one, you should go through a grinding season and everybody listening, should I went through it. Every one of the 3000 successful entrepreneurs I've interviewed have done that. And I worked. Those are the 27 days again, email communications, making sure my team is doing, they need to do. It's not like, you know, I'm just sipping Mai Tai's by a beach. Cause that's not my joy. My joy is running a business, but you know, it's three days of just kale in it. And then 27 days of like, okay, I'm going to do the things I want to do in my business. And the day is mine. The calendar is mine. My calendars are white empty. There's nothing in them, 27 days a month per usual. And that's by design by choice. And it took me years in years to get there. But I'm here now. And this is my choice. And guess what if I wanted to get to 10 million a year to 20 million a year and it'd be a different ball game. And if those were my goals, I'd still be grinding. But those aren't my goals. I know where I want to be. I've netted over a hundred thousand dollars a month, 89 months in a row. One of my favorite stats on my business, wow. Or a hundred thousand a month, 89 months in a row net net. So let's give some parting advice for our listeners. So we're going to have listeners that are all over the place. They're in all different pieces of their journey. I literally have a very, very diverse audience. That's global. So if somebody was starting today and they were just getting started, if they were you back in 2012, back when you were just getting moving, what would you tell them to do today? Well, this actually would be a perfect segue for me to talk because it is the honest to goodness truth. And I really do mean this to the project that I can not be more passionate about, which is something I spent all of 2020 busting my booty on. It's writing my first traditionally published book, the common path to uncommon success. And that's what it is. It's a 17 step roadmap to financial freedom and fulfillment that I was able to culminate from the 3000 plus interviews I've done with successful entrepreneurs, not to mention running a multi-million dollar a year, business myself now for eight years in a row. That's what I would tell them. I would say spend the flipping $17, get this book because it is my genius. It is the communitive genius of these 3000 successful entrepreneurs that I've interviewed over the years, condensed down into a 17 step roadmap. That frankly, if after reading this book and implementing these 17 steps in your life, which is step one, finding your big idea all the way through to step 17, keeping the money you make, you shouldn't be an entrepreneur and that's not meant to be mean or cruel or anything because not everybody's meant to be an entrepreneur or an online business or whatever you want to describe yourself. As you know, there's some people that are doing unbelievable as a 837th hire at Facebook and they're crushing it. And life is great for them. This book will get you there. So for me know, this is my biggest passion project that I've ever created. I couldn't do it until now. And by the way, one of the chapters in the book, this, the neediest chapter, I couldn't believe how long this chapter ended up being because it's so meaty. The whole book, 71,000 words, this chapter alone might be 20,000. It's creating your content production plan. Like that's what you're getting into right now here. I know that. And this is something that we're always working and improving upon. If you get that down, it's just a matter of time. It's not, if it's when at that point I went through your journal. When I was launching my podcast, I think I sent you a picture. I was having a smoothie and Condado reading your turn, all going through. So I know anything you produce. It's legit. It's good stuff. Like it's not fluff. It's not fake. It's like you practice everything that you preach, which is what I respect. So like, if you're listening to this, like I buy the book because like I want to get to three days a month. Like, that's what I want to do. Like I want to net a hundred grand a month for 89 months in a row in my business, like who doesn't want to do that? And if you want to, and if you are doing it right now, I can only imagine the people that are doing it, but they're working a lot more than three days a month. And again, You need to accept what season you're at right now and go all in on that season. So like where should people start? They should start by learning from those who have been there, who have done that. That's how I started back in 2012, by listening to podcasts that were kind of scatterbrained and all over the place. Now I have the answer. This 17 step roadmap. We're super passionate about it. The book comes out March 23rd. Don't wait because pre-orders are everything for successful book launch. And so we actually have five bonuses for people that pre-order, that disappear the day, the book launches. So you want to head over to uncommon success. book.com five amazing bonuses come with your pre-order with a $17. Pre-order by the way, one of the bonuses, just as a sneak peek, I'm shipping all three of my journals, the freedom mastery and podcast journal to your door, literally for $150 worth of journals to your door. Plus four other amazing bonuses, uncommon success, book.com. That's where it's all at this book. Gary's been personally endorsed by Seth Godin and Gary Vaynerchuk, Neil Patel, Eric Amanti, Dorie Clark. It's my best work ever. And it's a no brainer. 17 bucks. Get all of that. Well, I can tell you, I know it's going to be a no brainer. I went and bought it at Amazon while you were talking. It is pre-ordered right now. So that's there, but you know, definitely do go check out uncommon success. But because this is how I look at the currency system. If I'm listening to your podcast, if I'm getting value out of you, if I'm reading your blog posts, if I'm leaning into you and you publish a book, I don't need to keep leaning in. If I'm not willing to go buy your book, like just go move on. And if you're not going to read the book, I get it. I know some of you don't read books, grab the audio. And if you're not going to listen to the audio, buy it for someone Else, just go by the book and gift it to someone. Because someone, you know, reads a book and that's the way I look at this. It's like, if we're going to lean into somebody, if we're going to spend our time, like the 30 minutes you spent here today, or the hour, you spend listening to an entrepreneur on fire podcast, or the 30 minutes, you spent reading a blog post and studying how he's making his money. If you're going to spend your time and you're not willing to spend your money, come on, man, you got your priorities out of alignment. Your time is worth way more than $20. So trail. So other than grabbing the book, what's the best way for our listeners to get in contact with you to follow you, engage. Where do you hang out? Where do you want them to go? All the magic for us happens@eofire.com. We have free courses, free resources for entrepreneurs. We're just looking to add value to your lives. So we have amazing stuff there. My podcast entrepreneurs on fire over 3000 episodes of a back catalog. So you'll be busy there. And the real call to action is uncommon success. book.com go there. You'll see a video of me talking about the book. More description about the book, my five endorsements again by Gary V Seth Godin, Neil Patel, amazing individuals, and the five bonuses that come along with it, which make this such a no brainer. Like this is the thing here. And this is a lot of people like, dude, you must be losing money on every pre-order. And yes, I am losing money on every single pre-order. When I'm shipping three of my journals to your door, it's not the point. I've already gone past that time. When everything for me has to be a money-making thing. Again, there was a season in my life that had to cause then how much money. But now it's about impact. It's about getting this book into your hands. So you win because I want you to win. If you're hearing my voice, I want you to win. And this book is going to allow you to achieve your version of uncommon success. That's you winning. I love that. And if you're listening, I can tell you if you spent the last few minutes, listening with us, go grab the book, like do it. It's going to change your life. I know it will. There's been books that have changed my life and there's been opportunities that have existed in my life that, you know, they come around because I listened to someone talk or I lean into someone's principles. And JLD is one of those guys that you want to follow and you want to lean into. So that's just where I'll leave that. So thank you for hanging out with us, man. I know you're busy and I know we're probably in one of those days that you're crammed back to back. So thanks for taking some time and doing an interview with us and let me know what I can do to help you. Thanks, Gary, I'll catch you in the clubhouse. I'm talking to John Lee Dumas, but how to find an opportunity and go all in how to learn to actually say no. So it saves you the time, space and energy to be able to say yes, when you want to, or when you need to and how grinding actually comes in seasons and you don't have to grind all the time. But what we really talked about is we talked about John's uncommon path To success and you know, he's got a new book out and I want to just take a moment and just make sure that you grab a copy of this book. As I did, it's the common path to uncommon success. And what JLD has been able to do is pay the path on his own, to a place where most of us will be really, really happy to go. He has a beautiful house here in Puerto Rico. He's living an amazing life with his gorgeous dog and his beautiful new fiance. Kate, he's doing what he wants. 27 days out of the month. He's working in grinding three days out of that month. Really, really hard, but he's getting to choose what he chooses to do every single day, the rest of the time. So thanks for taking some time with us today. And I really want you to visit uncommon success, book.com and grab a copy of Jay LLDs brand new book. Thank you.
